UPMC McKeesport is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Resource department. This role offers the opportunity to work across various departments within the hospital, providing a dynamic and diverse work environment.

Position Type: Regular Casual, requiring 36 hours every 6 weeks. Weekend shifts and one holiday per year are mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The LPN will operate as an integral member of the healthcare team, utilizing sound nursing judgment grounded in knowledge, experience, and competency.
  • Engage in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care through focused evaluations in various clinical settings.
  • Seek guidance and supervision when implementing new or unfamiliar nursing practices, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Function within the LPN Practice guidelines, including IV administration as trained and appropriate, fostering a healing environment.
  • Develop daily objectives and care plans that actively involve patients, addressing their holistic needs.
  • Effectively communicate patient conditions to other healthcare providers, ensuring comprehensive documentation that enhances caregiver collaboration.
  • Incorporate national professional standards and organizational goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction in daily activities.
  • Foster a compassionate and patient-centered experience by building strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues, while actively participating in unit initiatives.
  • Provide thorough education to patients and families to navigate their care journey and transition to other levels of care or home.
  • Encourage continuous learning in clinical areas by engaging in organizational programs and identifying opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team and patients to identify and implement process improvements that enhance patient care.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment.
  • Recognize and respect cultural differences, promoting healthy relationships among peers.
  • Maintain a balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being, modeling effective time management and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors, and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Completion of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing is required.
  • To perform IV therapy, successful completion of the IV therapy curriculum is necessary.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and interact effectively with patients across the lifespan.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance patient outcomes through collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Exhibit the ability to work efficiently in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients is essential.
  • Proficient computer skills are required to utilize the electronic health record system.
  • Licensure and Certifications:
  • Must maintain state licensure in the practicing state or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure is mandatory.
  • Act 34 clearance is necessary.
