POSITION AVAILABLE AT NEWTON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

REPORTING TO: Principal / Assistant Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related discipline with a valid teaching certificate in Georgia
  • Possesses Professional Qualifications and is qualified to instruct the assigned subject and/or class as outlined by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. To fulfill this requirement, the educator must successfully complete a content knowledge assessment approved by the PSC in the subject area, or provide written documentation that may exempt the testing requirement within 20 days of employment
  • Demonstrates the ability to connect effectively with students, parents, and colleagues

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivers instruction to students utilizing the Georgia Performance Standards and effective, research-based teaching methodologies
  • Assists students in developing foundational knowledge to support their understanding of the Georgia Performance Standards
  • Facilitates student engagement with instructional technology
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality, fulfilling all assigned responsibilities efficiently and effectively
  • Exhibits a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the educational environment
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude and conduct at all times when interacting with the board, school administration, colleagues, parents, students, and the community
  • Instructs one or more subjects within the framework of the educational goals set by the school system; plans and implements suitable long-term and short-term objectives for each assigned course
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development and local improvement initiatives; applies skills and best practices gained from professional learning to enhance student achievement
  • Continuously evaluates student performance in relation to established educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Effectively manages student behavior to create a conducive learning environment and assists in behavior management throughout the school
  • Works collaboratively in various capacities, including self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant roles; engages in regular teamwork to review assessment data and adjust instruction to boost student success
  • Maintains accurate and current student grading and attendance records
  • Ensures ongoing communication with parents, both written and verbal, to keep them informed about student progress and behavior
  • Supervises the performance of teacher assistants, if applicable
  • Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and training sessions in coordination with the Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Contributes to a positive and collaborative workplace atmosphere
  • Meets the performance and behavioral standards set by the principal
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
