POSITION AVAILABLE AT NEWTON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

REPORTING TO: Principal / Assistant Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related discipline with a valid teaching certificate in Georgia
  • Meets Professional Qualifications and is qualified to instruct the assigned subject and/or class as outlined by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. To fulfill this requirement, the educator must successfully complete a content knowledge assessment recognized by the PSC in the relevant subject or provide acceptable documentation that may exempt the testing requirement within 20 days of employment
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively connect with students, parents, and colleagues

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates learning for students utilizing the Georgia Performance Standards and effective, research-based instructional methodologies
  • Assists students in developing foundational knowledge to support their understanding of the Georgia Performance Standards
  • Guides students in the use of educational technology
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality, executing all assigned responsibilities efficiently and effectively
  • Presents a professional appearance appropriate for the educational environment
  • Exhibits professionalism in all interactions with the board, school administration, colleagues, parents, students, and the community
  • Instructs one or more subjects within the established goals of the school system; designs and implements relevant long-term and short-term objectives for each assigned course
  • Engages in ongoing professional development, applying acquired skills and best practices in the classroom to enhance student achievement
  • Continuously evaluates student performance in relation to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Effectively manages student behavior to foster a conducive learning environment and assists in maintaining order throughout the school
  • Works collaboratively in various capacities, whether self-contained, team-based, departmental, or itinerant; frequently collaborates with peers to analyze assessment data and adjust instruction to boost student success
  • Keeps accurate and current records of student grades and attendance
  • Ensures regular communication with parents, both written and verbal, to update them on student progress and behavior
  • Supervises the performance of teacher assistants, if applicable
  • Participates in professional meetings, training sessions, and other educational development opportunities, collaborating with the Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Contributes to a positive and collaborative workplace atmosphere
  • Meets the performance and conduct expectations set by the principal
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned
