Overview:

The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist is accountable for delivering pulmonary care to critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill patients across various age groups, including adults, children, and neonates, under the supervision of a physician with minimal oversight.

This role involves conducting patient evaluations and implementing respiratory care strategies. The specialist will perform a range of technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Emergency response (Code Blue and White);
  • Management of airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning;
  • Administration of aerosolized medications;
  • Operation and management of ventilators;
  • Maintenance of oral hygiene;
  • Placement and upkeep of airway retention devices;
  • Management of airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP;
  • Administration of oxygen delivery systems and therapeutic monitoring;
  • Analysis of chest radiographs;
  • Collection and evaluation of blood gases;
  • EKG interpretation;
  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation;
  • Clean and restock equipment and supplies as needed;
  • Participate in CAP and JC evaluations.
  • RRTs may take on the role of Shift Leader or Team Leader.
  • Advanced practice skills may encompass:
  • Management and monitoring of therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2;
  • Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests;
  • Assisting in bronchoscopy procedures;
  • Monitoring hemodynamics;
  • Analyzing waveforms;
  • Conducting nocturnal SpO2 evaluations (Desaturation Studies);
  • Performing polysomnography;
  • Undertaking transport responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Licensure and/or certification requirements apply. A. Experience - A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred. B. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications - RT or RCP License in the state of employment is required. BLS certification is mandatory. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the NBRC is required.
Work Schedule: Night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM.
