Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist is accountable for delivering comprehensive pulmonary care to patients of all ages, including critical, non-critical, and chronically ill individuals, under the supervision of a physician. This role involves conducting patient evaluations and implementing tailored respiratory care strategies. The specialist will perform a variety of technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy tasks across all hospital departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Outpatient Duties:


• Conducting Spirometry Assessments

• Performing DLCO Tests (Diffusion Capacity of Carbon Monoxide)

• Executing FENO Tests (Fraction of Exhaled Nitric Oxide)

• Utilizing Body Box for Body Plethysmography

• Administering MVV (Maximum Voluntary Ventilation)

• Measuring MIP/MEP (Maximum Inspiratory and Expiratory Pressures)

• Overseeing Six Minute Walk Tests

• Guiding Incentive Spirometry Sessions

• Providing Spacer Education

• Administering Albuterol Treatments

• Collecting Cystic Fibrosis Sputum Samples

• Conducting Methacholine Challenges

Inpatient Duties:


• Upholding the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, including Leadership Roles

• Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Responding to Emergency Situations (Code Blue and White);

• Managing Airway Procedures such as Nasotracheal and Endotracheal Suctioning;

• Administering Aerosolized Medications;

• Overseeing Ventilator Operations;

• Ensuring Oral Hygiene for Patients;

• Maintaining Airway Retaining Devices;

• Managing BiPAP and CPAP Devices;

• Delivering Oxygen Therapy and Monitoring;

• Analyzing Chest Imaging;

• Collecting and Interpreting Blood Gas Samples;

• Conducting EKG Interpretations;

• Ensuring Accurate Documentation;

• Cleaning and Restocking Equipment as Needed;

• Participating in CAP and JC Surveys.

• RRTs may take on Shift Leader or Team Leader roles

• Advanced Practice Skills may encompass:

• Therapeutic Gas Management and Monitoring;

• Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests;

• Assisting in Bronchoscopy Procedures;

• Monitoring Hemodynamics;

• Performing Waveform Analysis;

• Evaluating Nocturnal SpO2 Levels;

• Conducting Polysomnography;

• Managing Patient Transport Duties.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • Compliance with licensure and certification standards

B. Experience

  • Preferred 1 - 3 years of relevant experience

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Required RT or RCP License in the state of employment
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from NBRC
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
