Overview:

The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist is accountable for delivering comprehensive pulmonary care to critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill patients across various age groups, including adults, children, and neonates. This role operates under the guidance of a physician and requires minimal supervision. The specialist conducts thorough patient evaluations and develops tailored respiratory care strategies. Additionally, they perform a range of technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy interventions throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies, which include roles such as Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Responding to emergency situations (Code Blue and White);
  • Managing airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning;
  • Administering aerosolized medications;
  • Overseeing ventilator operations and setup;
  • Providing oral hygiene care;
  • Placing and maintaining airway retention devices;
  • Managing airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP;
  • Delivering oxygen therapy and monitoring therapeutic responses;
  • Analyzing chest radiographs;
  • Collecting and interpreting blood gas samples;
  • Conducting EKG assessments;
  • Ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation;
  • Cleaning and restocking medical equipment and supplies as needed;
  • Participating in accreditation surveys.
  • Assuming the role of Shift Leader or Team Leader as required.

• Advanced Practice Skills may encompass:
  • Management and monitoring of therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2;
  • Conducting pulmonary function assessments;
  • Assisting in bronchoscopy procedures;
  • Monitoring hemodynamic status;
  • Performing waveform analysis;
  • Evaluating nocturnal oxygen saturation (Desaturation Studies);
  • Conducting polysomnography;
  • Executing transport duties for patients.
Qualifications:

• Compliance with licensure and certification standards is required.
• A minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant experience is preferred.

• A valid RT or RCP License in the state of employment is mandatory.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Registration as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is essential.
