Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Public Safety Telecommunicator to join our team at Sumter County, FL. As a key member of our Emergency Communications Center, you will be responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching units, and providing critical support to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, utilizing strong communication and problem-solving skills to determine the nature of the crisis and initiate appropriate action.
  • Dispatch units and personnel, utilizing knowledge of radio communications rules and regulations, as well as basic medical and fire terminology.
  • Operate radio and telephone transmitting and receiving equipment, as well as computer-aided dispatch systems, to ensure efficient and effective communication.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of operations, including call logs and dispatch records.
  • Collaborate with emergency responders and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and effective response to emergencies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of experience in a fast-paced, high call volume dispatching environment preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the insurance provider.
  • Required certifications include National Incident Management System (NIMS), Florida Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as respond to emergencies and crises as needed.
