About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bakery Department Manager to join our team at Kroger. As a key member of our store leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Bakery department to achieve sales and profit goals, while ensuring exceptional customer service and a safe and clean store environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Manage the Bakery Department: Direct, support, and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Bakery department, including managing inventory, scheduling, and employee development.
  • Drive Sales and Profit Growth: Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return, achieve sales and profit goals established for the department, and monitor and control all established quality assurance standards.
  • Develop and Implement Business Plans: Partner with store management to develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results, including creating an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
  • Manage Inventory and Scheduling: Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation, train and develop associates on performance of their job, and participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Ensure Food Safety and Quality: Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines, prepare foods according to cooking instructions, and ensure proper temperatures of food, cases, and coolers are maintained and recorded.
  • Manage Expenses and Budget: Monitor and control expenses for the department, assist store management in preparing the store/department budget, profit and loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports.
Requirements
  • Effective Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with associates, customers, and store management.
  • Knowledge of Basic Math: Ability to perform basic math functions, including calculating inventory, scheduling, and sales data.
  • Ability to Handle Stressful Situations: Ability to handle stressful situations, including managing customer complaints and resolving conflicts.
  • Current Food Handlers Permit: Possession of a current food handlers permit.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Education or Equivalent: High school education or equivalent.
  • Management Experience: Previous management experience in a retail or food service environment.
  • Bakery Experience: Previous experience in a bakery or food service environment.
