Job Title: Assistant Landfill Manager

Job Summary:

The Assistant Landfill Manager position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA. This role requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage landfill operations and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and maintain operational goals and plans to ensure efficient and effective waste management.
  • Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards, and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
  • Assist with developing budgets and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, and specifications.
  • Coordinate landfill activities with other functions of the organization and suppliers to optimize production and utilization of resources.
  • Review production and operating reports, and direct the resolution of operations and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Train organizational and staff positions to accomplish company and county plans.
  • Perform performance evaluations, monitor employee attendance, and complete disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintain proper records and files, including compliance and personnel records.

Requirements:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer relations and personnel management skills.
  • Able to read and understand landfill set grades using a surveyor's instrument and GPS equipment.
  • Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification preferred.
  • Must demonstrate experience in problem-solving, leadership, quality management, planning, and organizing.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate all landfill equipment.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, regulations, policies, and safety training.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
