Job Description

BWXT is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Advanced Technologies team in Lynchburg, VA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative mechanical systems for nuclear reactors and other applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed component, system, and design engineering activities, including drawings, calculations, and reports.
  • Design mechanical components and systems with a focus on assembly, testing, and inspection.
  • Implement design control and configuration control concepts.
  • Develop designs that incorporate manufacturing and system operations considerations.
  • Learn and apply new procedures, processes, and tools to maintain production levels.
  • Specify procurement requirements for mechanical components and system operability.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Physics discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in nuclear reactor core components, reactor vessel, and reactor vessel head components.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Code, Section III and VIII.
  • General knowledge of project engineering activities.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication.
  • Strong team player with effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and independently.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.
