Strategic Customer Engagement Specialist

Job Overview:

As a Strategic Customer Engagement Specialist at Steel Technologies LLC, you will play a key role in driving business growth and maintaining strong relationships with our customers in the Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana territory, particularly in the Metropolitan Detroit area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with management to develop strategies for engaging our strategic customer base.
  2. Build a deep understanding of our company's strengths and value proposition.
  3. Develop and implement plans to educate and develop ourselves and others within the company.
  4. Establish ourselves as subject matter experts in our business offerings and maintain accurate records to communicate this information to management.
  5. Identify and pursue new business opportunities that align with our value proposition.
  6. Prepare and submit quotations in a timely manner using our standard quoting format.
  7. Convert quotations into earned business.
  8. Maintain existing relationships, improving profit where possible, and grow within existing accounts.
  9. Contribute to the development of monthly forecasts and work with inside sales and customers to improve forecast accuracy.
  10. Collaborate with inside sales, purchasing, business planning, and management to manage customer inventory and accounts receivable to meet agreed return on working capital targets.
  11. Communicate pricing updates clearly to inside sales, program managers, and administrative staff as necessary.
  12. Review daily sales reports to ensure correct pricing is applied and profit targets are met.
  13. Partner with quality and inside sales to evaluate and expedite customer claims.
  14. Make in-person visits and engage with customers to build and maintain strong relationships.
  15. Provide market intelligence to customers and establish ourselves as trusted partners.
  16. Gain a deep understanding of our customers' businesses and move up the value chain within those customers.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of sales principles.
  • Familiarity with internal controls and procedures.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Familiarity with raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of steel and other flat rolled metal products.

The estimated salary for this position is around $90,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on experience.
