About the Role

Navy Federal Credit Union is seeking a highly skilled Business Loan Underwriter II to join our team. As a Business Loan Underwriter II, you will play a critical role in evaluating and underwriting business loan applications, ensuring that our credit union's risk exposure is minimized while providing excellent service to our members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate Business Loan Applications: Analyze business loan applicants' financial status, credit, and business to determine the feasibility of granting credit, including loan approval.
  • Assess Credit Worthiness: Determine the credit-worthiness of business borrowers according to established guidelines, using qualitative and quantitative analysis, such as review of financial statements, credit reports, and applicable ratios.
  • Develop Loan Packages: Propose and determine the appropriate deal structure commensurate with the associated risk level on approved business credit deals, including financial, operational, or capital/cash covenants.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with development teams and business members to ensure all necessary data is obtained, reviews and analyzes loan applications, and validates the integrity of the data.
  • Present Loan Recommendations: Present business loan packages and loan recommendations to senior business lending management for loans above approval authority.
  • Monitor and Evaluate: Monitor business annual financial statements/tax returns to ensure adherence to Navy Federal Credit Union policies and procedures, and evaluates business viability by analyzing tax statements independent of business scoring systems.
  • Assess Risk: Assess the risk of credit deals and business failing by assigning a rating and recommending any necessary action to mitigate credit union risk.
  • Approve or Decline Loans: Approve or decline business loan submissions within assigned authority, and approves business loans and authorizes loan disbursements based on a complete analysis of submitted documentation and applicable rules and regulations.
Requirements
  • Previous Underwriting Experience: Previous underwriting experience and solid knowledge of underwriting criteria utilized, per conventional business loan financing guidelines.
  • Good Understanding of Business Credit: Good understanding of, and/or previous experience in, the granting of business credit.
  • Financial Analysis Skills: Familiarity with financial ratios and concepts, such as database, word processing, and business lending system software.
  • Strong Analytical and Communication Skills: Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative, and effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Navy Federal Credit Union Policies: Familiarity with Navy Federal Credit Union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
