The Pheresis Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of donors during the pheresis process. This position requires a blend of technical skills and interpersonal abilities to effectively monitor and assist donors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the autopheresis equipment for the donation procedure.
- Continuously observe the donor and the pheresis process, addressing any alarms or signals promptly.
- Safely disconnect the donor upon completion of the procedure.
- Remain vigilant to any reactions from donors during or after the process.
- Document incidents using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
- Ensure proper linkage of equipment and supplies to the respective donor.
- Notify the Group Leader of any issues related to donor flow.
- Accurately record donor information.
- Maintain a tidy work area and ensure adequate supplies are available.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Protect the confidentiality of all sensitive information.
- May undergo cross-training in additional areas.
- Bilingual capabilities may be beneficial.
- Execute assigned tasks as required.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
Experience
- A minimum of three months of relevant work experience, ideally in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations is essential.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to comprehend and apply instructions effectively.
- Visual and auditory abilities are necessary for monitoring equipment operation.
- Occasional standing and walking may be required.
- Physical tasks may include reaching, bending, kneeling, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens is possible.
- Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when necessary.
- Willingness to work overtime and extended hours may be required.
