About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team at Magic Leap. As a key member of our Product Development and Engineering job family, you will be responsible for defining architectural concepts for future products and subsystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts across cross-functional teams to translate optical and perception requirements into physical hardware design proposals.
  • Examine trade-offs and drive solutions that simultaneously optimize size, weight, power, and performance among competing requirements for compact imaging and display systems.
  • Collaborate with Optics, Display, Sensors, NPI, and other Opto-Mechanical engineers to optimize designs, assembly, and manufacturing of head-worn devices.
  • Develop a deep understanding of optical and sensor KPIs and how they relate to the display product user experience.
  • Provide and negotiate guidance on tolerancing, material choices, testing methodologies, and fabrication.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in design and development of optical products, preferably consumer products.
  • Master's Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering field.
  • Capable of developing concepts for fixtures, calibration equipment, or production components using 3D CAD.
  • Knowledge of color science, colorimetry, image quality metrics, and algorithms for digital image processing.
  • Experience with commercial optical design software tools and opto-mechanical design software.
