The Opportunity

RS&H is seeking a Senior Principal Highway Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Job Summary

The Senior Principal Highway Engineer will lead the roadway/highway analysis and design efforts on large-scale conventional and design-build projects for FDOT and county clients. Responsibilities include client communication, managing subconsultants, mentoring roadway/highway staff, monitoring labor budgets and schedules, coordinating with discipline key task leaders and staff, performing quality control on deliverables, meeting project deliverable schedules and budgets, and leading/supporting marketing and business development initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in roadway/highway engineering
  • Florida professional engineering (PE) registration
  • Experience managing conventional and design-build projects relating to intersections, arterials, interstates, and interchanges for FDOT and county clients
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation, Geopak, and/or OpenRoads Designer
  • Experience working with large multi-discipline teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and overall quality control and management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Diverse background in the management and delivery of both conventional Design-Bid-Build and alternative delivery projects
  • Experience as a Project Manager and/or subject matter expert within an Owners Representative Contract for a major corridor
  • Engineer of Record experience in a wide variety of FDOT highway projects, including Limited Access Highways, Tolled Expressways, Urban Arterial Reconstruction and Widenings, and Milling & Resurfacings
  • Experience delivering FDOT District Wide and/or Continuing Services Contracts
  • Well-established FDOT contacts within respective geography
  • Experience in complex interchange and/or alternative intersection design
  • Capability to oversee and review work performed within Bentley OpenRoads Designer
  • Managed and led a high-performing highway team
