Position Description

Environmental Policy and Management

University of California, Davis

The Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis invites applications for lecturer positions to educate students during the academic year. Compensation and the duration of the appointment will depend on the number of courses assigned and the number of units per course.

Position Responsibilities:

To instruct ENV 202 in Fall and/or ENV 297 in Fall, Winter, or Spring.

Course Descriptions:

ENV 202 - Policy Development and Implementation: This course covers the processes of environmental policy development and implementation, including legislation, regulation development, and the review and enactment of new laws. It also addresses California state processes, local, federal, and international policy, and the role of business in climate policy. The course will involve theory, applied study, discussions with guest experts, and practical skills such as writing for a policy audience.

ENV 297 - Professional Development Seminar: This weekly seminar focuses on developing professional skills for careers in environmental policy and management, with each quarter dedicated to different themes developed in collaboration with the instructor and program director.

Appointment Details:
Assignments vary according to the type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are:

Fall Quarter 2024: September 23, 2024 - December 13, 2024

Winter Quarter 2025: January 3 - March 21, 2025

Spring Quarter 2025: March 27 - June 12, 2025

Responsibilities: Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in Environmental Science and Policy. Candidates may be asked to teach one to two courses for the year depending on programmatic need and candidate's availability.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications: Appropriate professional degree, e.g., Doctorate; or Master's degree with prior professional success and recognition for excellence; or thirty (30) units of graduate coursework with prior professional success and recognition for excellence; a demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

Preferred Qualifications:

Project Management Experience

A demonstrated teaching ability

A developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

University-level teaching experience is highly desired.
