Position Title: Invertebrate Care Specialist

Department: Entomology

Reports To: Curator of Animal Collection

Compensation: Starting at $16 per hour, with potential for higher pay based on experience

General Summary: The Invertebrate Care Specialist is responsible for educating visitors about the diverse array of invertebrates and their habitats while ensuring the well-being of the living collection. This role involves hands-on animal care and maintenance of exhibits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional guest experiences through friendly and informative interactions.
  • Uphold the highest standards of care within the Husbandry Department.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and guests, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.
  • Identify and resolve minor maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues, management, and visitors.
  • Assist with daily operational tasks across various sections as needed.
  • Perform routine facility and exhibit maintenance, including cleaning and upkeep.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of experience in a zoological or similar facility.
  • Understanding of invertebrate care and welfare standards.
  • High School diploma required; a degree in zoology, biology, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to new record-keeping systems.
  • Valid driver's license is necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must have good vision and hearing capabilities.

  • Exposure to varying temperatures and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress effectively.
