Position Title: Aquatic Animal Care Specialist

General Summary:

The Audubon Institute is seeking a dedicated individual to join its Husbandry team as an Aquatic Animal Care Specialist, responsible for the well-being of a diverse array of aquatic species. This entry-level role involves collaboration with the Husbandry staff to achieve established objectives focused on exceptional animal care and enhancing visitor experiences. Candidates must be available to work weekends and holidays and possess a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance Guest Experience: Ensure every interaction with guests, vendors, and colleagues is positive through exemplary hospitality and service.
  • Animal Care Standards: Maintain high standards of animal welfare, prioritizing preventative care and understanding water quality management.
  • Exhibit Maintenance: Oversee daily tasks related to exhibit upkeep, ensuring functionality and compliance with established protocols.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate documentation for monitoring animal health and behavior, contributing to ongoing improvements in care practices.
  • Public Engagement: Actively participate in educational programs, tours, and outreach efforts to promote conservation and awareness.

Qualifications:

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a zoological or public aquarium setting is preferred, with a focus on aquatic animal care.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field from an accredited institution.

Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with animal data management software is advantageous. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and perform various physical tasks associated with animal care and exhibit maintenance.

Working Conditions: Candidates must be comfortable working in diverse environments, including exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with animal care.
