Certified Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist II is a key member of the respiratory care team, responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of the department.
Responsibilities- Administer non-medicated aerosol and humidity therapy as prescribed by physicians.
- Plan and implement oxygen therapy protocols, including the use of oxygen therapy equipment.
- Administer aerosolized medication and specialty gas therapy, ensuring accurate dosing and delivery.
- Develop and implement COPD care programs, working closely with patients and healthcare teams to optimize outcomes.
- Perform airway management, including intubation and extubation, as needed.
- Administer incentive spirometry, promoting patient participation and engagement in their care.
- Clean and reprocess respiratory therapy equipment, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Administer bronchial hygiene and chest physiotherapy, as prescribed by physicians.
- Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and manual ventilation during resuscitation attempts, providing critical care support.
- Collect, analyze, and report arterial blood samples, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Operate mechanical ventilators, managing settings and weaning patients according to protocols and physician orders.
- Perform electrocardiography studies and bedside pulmonary function testing, providing valuable diagnostic information.
- Conduct overnight pulse oximetry, monitoring patients' oxygen saturation levels.
- Assist in research projects, as directed by departmental and facility leadership.
- Provide patient, family, hospital staff, and physician education, promoting health literacy and patient engagement.
- Attend staff and hospital meetings, participating in committees as directed.
- At a minimum, an Associate's Degree in Cardiopulmonary Services or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program.
- A Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) designation from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), maintained current.
- An active license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care.
- A current certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
- A current certificate from the AHA in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, desired.
- A current certificate from the AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider, if working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- No prior experience in respiratory care is required; at least one year of experience in respiratory critical care is preferred.
$36.52/hour
