Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Behavioral Health Services of VA. The primary role of this position will involve delivering mental health services to individuals requiring support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Treatment Plans: Create and implement individualized treatment plans based on the unique needs and goals of each client.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: Work effectively with fellow healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
  • Manage Client Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes and other relevant documentation.
  • Participate in Training and Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Provide Direct Care: Deliver direct care to program participants, including assessment, treatment, and support services.
  • Assist with Assessment: Assist with gathering information for assessment and developing treatment plans.
  • Manage Caseload: Maintain a caseload of multiple clients, providing regular check-ins and support services as needed.
  • Reduce Risk of Out-of-Home Placement: Work with clients and their families to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement or assist in the return from out-of-home placement.
  • Attend Supervision: Attend weekly supervision with the Clinical Supervisor to discuss client progress and receive feedback.
  • Culturally Competent Care: Demonstrate an awareness, appreciation, and respect for diverse cultures and individual differences of clients and fellow employees.
  • Utilize Approved Skills Curriculum: Utilize approved skills curriculum with youth, adults, and families to help improve behavior and achieve treatment goals.
  • Document Services: Maintain accurate and concise documentation of all services, contacts, and collaboration with clients, families, and community partners.
  • Provide Crisis/Emergency Services: Provide or secure support and crisis/emergency services for clients by phone contact or in-person.
  • Adhere to State and Federal Regulations: Maintain all client documentation in the electronic record system and ensure adherence to requirements set forth in all state and federal rules and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or Human Services: Hold a Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a human services-related field.
  • Current Registration as a QMHP: Must hold current registration as a QMHP from the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Experience in Mental Health Services: At least one year of experience providing mental health services (preferred).
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to Work Independently: Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
