Support the mission of the University by developing and implementing policies, programs, and practices that attract, compensate, retain, and reward faculty and staff.
About the Role:
The Compensation Specialist is an integral member of the classification and compensation team. This role provides analytical support and guidance for the implementation, communication, and management of compensation programs, policies, and practices for faculty and staff. The specialist ensures that compensation strategies are competitive, cost-effective, equitable, and compliant with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate the development, implementation, and communication of compensation programs by collaborating with key stakeholders on various projects, including program design and analysis.
2. Conduct comprehensive research from diverse sources for synthesis and reporting to leadership.
3. Provide analytical support and data analysis on projects and human resource metrics.
4. Lead focus groups and informational sessions related to compensation initiatives.
5. Administer classification and compensation programs by offering daily advice and support to HR staff and university managers.
6. Review and analyze requests for new positions and reclassifications to determine appropriate classification and compensation levels.
7. Conduct organizational assessments at the request of department heads and provide actionable recommendations.
8. Collaborate with HR staff to establish appropriate salaries for new hires and increase requests.
9. Participate in the salary increase process when authorized.
10. Maintain relationships with compensation professionals at other institutions and participate in salary surveys as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Human Resources with exposure to various specialty areas.
- Experience in evaluating and classifying positions within a formal classification system.
- Thorough knowledge of HR principles and practices, including applicable laws and regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, tailored to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with market-based compensation systems.
- Progressive HR experience in higher education or large public employers.
- Knowledge of market and merit compensation practices.
