Registered Nurse II

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse II to join our Medical Services team at Travis County. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and making a positive impact in the lives of our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough intake and physical assessments of patients, including immediate medical attention and/or psychological needs.
- Assess patients to determine if they need to be referred to outside resources for more extensive medical assessment and treatment.
- Perform drug screens and order and inventory medications daily.
- Respond to and assess all categories of patient emergent medical needs and provide treatment according to protocol and/or direction from authorized medical staff.
- Work in Dental and STD clinics and consult with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues.
- Provide direct health care to patients, including wound care, medication administration, monitoring of vital signs and laboratory procedures.
- Coordinate with and assist other medical staff about all aspects of patient health care and practice and train healthcare staff in safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Provide health care instruction and counseling to residents and document patient's condition and maintain patient medical files and records.
- Answer medical questions from staff, patient's relatives and others as appropriate and assist in prioritizing patient needs, based on urgency and severity of medical condition.
- May assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing and feeding.
- Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program and one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience.
- Certification as a Juvenile Detention Officer or eligible for certification within six (6) months of date of hire, including successful completion of Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, First Aid and Handle with Care (state approved physical restraint techniques).
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Ability to lift/carry up to pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
- Subject to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions.
