Clinical Nurse II (Temporary Weekend Night Shift 10pm-6am)

The Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) is seeking applications for both part-time and full-time Clinical Nurse II roles within our Medical Services division.

These positions are vital for maintaining continuous medical operations to ensure quality care for juvenile clients through thorough assessments, medication management, and direct patient care.

Shift Differential Pay ($4.40/hour) is available for any weekend hours worked and hours worked between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weekdays.

The mission of the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) is to enhance public safety by effectively addressing the needs of juveniles, families, and crime victims.

To achieve this, TCJPD employs a comprehensive continuum of care that includes victim mediation services, direct supervision, alternative education, substance abuse treatment, residential and outpatient programs, in-home family counseling, and aftercare services.

TCJPD utilizes trauma-informed mental health assessments and psychological evaluations to identify youth requiring specialized services. We provide onsite services and collaborate with community partners to ensure that youth and families receive targeted interventions.

As a Clinical Nurse II, you will evaluate the healthcare needs of patients and develop care plans accordingly. You will coordinate medical treatments and deliver nursing care to patients.

Additionally, you will provide clinical and administrative supervision for Licensed Vocational Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants while collaborating with other healthcare and non-healthcare staff on duty.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive intake and physical assessments of patients, addressing immediate medical and psychological needs. Determine if referrals to external resources are necessary for further medical evaluation and treatment.
  • Perform drug screenings.
  • Manage daily medication orders and inventories, dispensing medications as prescribed.
  • Respond to and assess all categories of patient emergency medical needs, providing or arranging treatment as per established protocols.
  • Work in Dental and STD clinics.
  • Consult with clinical and administrative personnel regarding patient healthcare issues.
  • Provide direct healthcare services to patients, including wound care, medication administration, and monitoring vital signs and laboratory procedures.
  • Collaborate with other medical staff regarding all aspects of patient healthcare.
  • Implement and train healthcare staff in safety, environmental, and infection control protocols.
  • Offer health education and counseling to residents.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient conditions and medical records, entering data into the computer system. Perform additional administrative tasks as required.
  • Address medical inquiries from staff, patients' relatives, and others as appropriate.
  • Assist in prioritizing patient needs based on urgency and severity of medical conditions.
  • May assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing and feeding.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program AND one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.

Knowledge of:
  • Standard nursing practices and healthcare protocols.

  • Proper medication dosages and expected outcomes.

  • Medical documentation and record-keeping principles.
  • Computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Adherence to HIPAA and other laws governing the confidentiality of health information.

  • Administering daily patient care using medical instruments.
  • Performing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
  • Conducting medical tests and accurately recording results.
  • Prioritizing patient needs effectively.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to:

  • Document patient histories and input data into computer systems.
  • Manage medication orders and inventories.

Work Environment & Additional Information:


Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to a specified weight, visual acuity, speech and hearing capabilities, and manual dexterity for operating computers and office equipment.

Job duties may involve standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motions, and various physical activities.
