Position Overview

The Building Envelope Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting Project Managers throughout the lifecycle of various construction initiatives, encompassing both new developments and renovations of existing structures.

The responsibilities of the Building Envelope Engineering Specialist include:

  • Evaluating and generating design and construction documentation.
  • Conducting site inspections during the construction phase.
  • Ensuring quality assurance throughout the building process.
  • Engaging in assessments of current building envelope conditions and other structural systems, such as glazing, cladding, roofing, waterproofing, and more.
  • Investigating existing issues and providing detailed technical reports on failing systems.
  • Creating specifications and detailed plans for the repair of building structures.
  • Offering design support and consulting for new construction projects, focusing on building envelope systems and material selection.
  • Documenting and effectively communicating site conditions to the Project Manager and team to aid in problem-solving.
  • Managing project-related tasks, which include:

Reviewing preconstruction submissions and shop drawings.

Coordinating project schedules and requirements.

Addressing Requests for Information (RFIs).

Evaluating payment requests.

Participating in project meetings, often taking a leadership role.

Monitoring ongoing construction activities.

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, architects, owners, and contractors, to ensure successful project delivery.

Completing project closeout activities, which involve preparing record drawings and compiling punch lists.

Qualifications
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or Architectural Engineering is required.
  • Prior experience in construction, building envelope systems, roofing, or testing is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction-related role.
  • Familiarity with construction methodologies, terminology, materials, field investigation techniques, and the scientific principles related to building performance.
  • Strong writing skills for reports and business correspondence, along with the ability to present information effectively.
  • Willingness to work in both field and office settings.
  • A desire to pursue relevant certifications through recognized organizations is advantageous.
