Job Summary

The Shelly Company, a leading provider of aggregates, asphalt, and paving services, is seeking a skilled Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our HMA batch or drum plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plant Operations: Assist the plant foreperson with daily operations and upkeep of the plant, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on plant parts, including inspecting and replacing bags, dryer flights, and burner tips, as well as performing other maintenance-related duties as required.
  • Equipment Operation: Maintain and operate front-end loaders, ensuring they are in good working condition and properly maintained.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure knowledge of all applicable regulations affecting asphalt plant production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies, and ensure observance of such regulations.
  • Computer Skills: Be competent with computers and have a thorough knowledge of Windows-based programs.
  • Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding, fabrication, and electrical duties as required.
  • Safety and Quality: Detect safety hazards and malfunctions, and respond accordingly, ensuring a safe working environment and high-quality products.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet, humid conditions, airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and may require protective equipment.
