We are in search of an exceptional individual who thrives in a dynamic work environment and is eager to contribute to a small, elite team of high achievers.

Role Summary:

The Senior Technical Product Innovator will spearhead the technical development process from initial design concepts to the final sales sample approval. Collaborating closely with the design team, you will translate the overall aesthetic into prototype samples while ensuring that fit and construction standards not only meet but exceed quality and cost expectations. You will be responsible for maintaining specifications for all styles and managing associated records, files, and samples. Your expertise in construction and fit will be invaluable.

This role requires a natural inclination to dissect products to grasp their construction. You will be the primary problem solver for technical challenges, and we seek someone who appreciates well-crafted products, values teamwork, and fosters collaboration. Proven experience in time management is essential. We expect you to have a strong understanding of consumer insights and market intelligence to drive business growth and enhance market share in alignment with melin's core product principles, which include eco-friendliness, premium materials, distinctive details, innovative design, comfort, and performance. This position reports directly to the Director of Product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical product development from design concept through to sales sample approval.
  • Collaborate with the design team and overseas development partners to communicate aesthetic, fit, and technical requirements to factories.
  • Engage in hands-on problem-solving related to construction.
  • Manage the execution of all product development processes and ensure timely delivery of prototypes and samples according to the development calendar.
  • Act as the liaison between designers, overseas production teams, and suppliers to oversee the research, development, and quality of all melin products.
  • Maintain organized timelines with manufacturing partners and the material supply chain, in conjunction with melin's design and development calendar.
  • Ensure all products are developed within established target costs to meet company margin goals.
  • Create and maintain specification sheets.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the development process.
  • Oversee all phases of development, including Design Handoff, Costing, Compliance, Product/Material Testing, and Fit/Wear Testing.
  • Maintain an up-to-date seasonal development tracking report and ensure accuracy in Asana boards.
  • Review and relay design, fit, and construction feedback to suppliers, maintaining the seasonal style design comment sheet at each sample stage.
  • Monitor and track all samples, trims, fabrics, prints, and color approvals with suppliers.
  • Ensure consistency in materials, construction, and production techniques to uphold superior product integrity across the manufacturing base.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical and manufacturing resource for product line management, design, development, and other product team members.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for product design, construction, materials, and components to enhance functionality, aesthetics, fit, and product margins.
  • Prepare technical development packages and specifications to communicate intended construction and aesthetic details to overseas partners and factories.
  • Interpret feedback and relay updates to the design team for revised tech packs, advising factories on necessary details.
  • Examine all prototype submissions to ensure specifications align with tech packs and meet quality standards.
  • Lead prototype review meetings with the design team, identifying corrections, fit comments, and recommendations for all prototype stages.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the overseas development team.
  • Identify and address potential manufacturing, efficiency, and cost concerns throughout the product development cycle.
  • Travel internationally as needed for product and component development, including visits to manufacturing countries and trade shows.
  • Source new materials, trims, and design concepts.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in product development, with a focus on headwear, footwear, or technical apparel/accessories.
  • Technical engineering experience is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is essential.
  • Knowledge of sustainable fabrics, trims, and innovative manufacturing techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, along with a solid work ethic and teamwork capabilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
