Job Summary:

Ochsner Health System is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized, direct patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  • Assist in the implementation of the delivery of health care services.
  • Collaborate with fellow employees to provide the highest quality personalized patient care and maintain a positive work relationship with the healthcare team.
  • Document pertinent patient information in the medical record, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, brief history, patient instructions, and communication of test results.
  • Ensure future appointments have been scheduled or communicated and referrals/pre-authorizations have been initiated and obtained.

Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology or 2 years of experience or Associate's degree in Ophthalmic Assisting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification through JCAHPO preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
