Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Ochsner Health. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical operations of our ophthalmology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, direct patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  • Assist in the implementation of the delivery of health care services, including retrieving and collating patient information for providers.
  • Clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment, and prepare patients for provider exams.
  • Obtain near and distant visual acuity, Amsler grid, Worth 4-dot, color vision, stereo vision, and basal tear secretion tests.
  • Pull patient contact lens records for optometrist review.
  • Clean, disinfect, and pack instruments for autoclaving.
  • Document pertinent patient information in medical records, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, brief history, patient instructions, and communication of test results.
  • Ensure future appointments have been scheduled or communicated and referrals/pre-authorizations have been initiated and obtained.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, and adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology preferred.
  • 2 years of experience or Associate's degree in Ophthalmic Assisting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification through JCAHPO preferred.
Working Conditions

The physical demands of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
