As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the General Surgery Unit operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager and Director. This role encompasses the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN is expected to adapt to various environments within the Critical Care/Telemetry Complex and collaborate with the Riverside Health System team. Utilizing effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, the RN develops individualized care plans that respect the physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' clinical and psychosocial needs, adhering to established standards of practice relevant to the Critical Care/Telemetry settings.
  • Engage with patients and their families to formulate, execute, and review care plans, treatments, and procedures that enhance patient outcomes. Incorporate evidence-based practices and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Exhibit a proactive approach to patient throughput, ensuring that care is delivered consistently, competently, and ethically, with a focus on quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diverse patient populations, tailoring educational methods to ensure comprehension for patients and families. Take responsibility for individualizing patient education and discharge instructions, while evaluating understanding and documenting accordingly.
  • Complete all necessary clinical and quality documentation accurately and consistently, in line with Riverside Health System standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively delegate and prioritize tasks to maintain high-quality patient care, while being prepared to respond to emergency situations. Recognize personal support needs and utilize available resources.
Qualifications:

Education: MSN, BSN, ADN, or nursing diploma required.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required.

Licensure/Certification: Must hold a valid RN license or be board eligible in the State of Virginia or a compact state. BLS certification is required.
