As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse in the General Surgery Unit operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager and Director. This role encompasses the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN is expected to function in various environments within the Critical Care/Telemetry Complex of Riverside Health System. Utilizing strong communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, the RN develops individualized care plans that reflect the physiological, psychosocial, and cultural needs of each patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits proficiency in assessing both clinical and psychosocial requirements of patients, adhering to established standards of practice relevant to the specialty or patient demographic served in the Critical Care/Telemetry units.
- Collaborates with patients and their families to formulate, execute, and review care plans, treatments, and procedures aimed at achieving optimal physiological and psychosocial outcomes. Engages with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care and facilitates safe transitions for patients to subsequent care settings.
- Demonstrates urgency in managing patient flow to guarantee consistent, competent, and ethical care delivery, focusing on quality outcomes and integrating current evidence-based practices.
- Understands the diverse needs of patient populations and adapts educational methods to enhance patient and family comprehension. Takes responsibility for personalizing and coordinating patient education, including discharge instructions, while assessing understanding and documenting accordingly.
- Completes all necessary clinical and quality documentation in alignment with Riverside Health System standards and regulatory mandates.
- Exhibits the ability to delegate and prioritize tasks effectively to ensure high-quality patient care, while being prepared to respond to emergency situations. Recognizes personal support needs and utilizes available resources to address them.
Education: MSN, BSN, ADN, or nursing diploma required.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required.
Licensure/Certification: Must possess a valid RN license or be board eligible in the State of Virginia or a compact state. BLS certification is required.
