Role Summary

Stantec's Aviation division is seeking a Lead Aviation Planning Specialist and Project Manager to supervise and guide our Airport Planning Team located in the Northeast region. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing and executing a diverse array of airport design, planning, and airspace projects for a wide range of clients across the nation, including small general aviation facilities, major commercial airports, and military installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with clients to understand their needs, participate in airport commission meetings, and provide guidance to airport managers and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop project scopes, establish objectives, define roles, coordinate resources, and oversee project timelines.
  • Collaborate with design teams to produce deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for grant administration under the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program.
  • Lead the creation of proposals and qualifications statements.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts by delivering high-quality work and exceptional client service.
  • Mentor and motivate team members to achieve high performance and learn from experiences.
  • Educate staff on airspace elements and their implications for airport operations and safety.
  • Manage a diverse team of planning and technical professionals.
Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field in aviation or aerospace.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in managing airport infrastructure design and planning projects.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License with the ability to travel to client locations.
  • Relevant certifications such as AICP, AAAE, or CM are advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FAA policies, funding programs, and national compliance guidelines.
  • Expertise in airport planning and environmental programs.
  • Experience in conducting Airspace Analyses and managing obstruction removal projects.
  • Proven track record in aviation project pursuits, including client engagement and proposal development.
  • Understanding of air traffic control procedures and their relevance to airport design.
  • FAA pilot certification with an instrument rating is a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments with professional staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Interest in supporting Stantec's Aviation Sector beyond the Northeast region.
Work Environment

This position primarily operates in an office setting, with some fieldwork required. Occasional travel may be necessary.
