Construction Layout Technician

Position Overview: This role is responsible for supervising and executing construction site layout activities to ensure precise preparation for the installation teams across various phases, including under slab, aboveground, and overhead. The individual will play a crucial role in enhancing existing and new Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) technologies to integrate digital twins into our operational processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Engineering, BIM/VDC, and Field teams to establish a refined Construction Layout workflow.
  • Support Division Managers, Designers, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Crew Leaders in project layout and execution.
  • Represent the organization during design, kickoff, and progress meetings.
  • Plan, set up, and maintain layout control for assigned construction projects.
  • Establish reference points for under slab, aboveground, overhead, and finishes across various projects.
  • Verify that existing conditions are accurately depicted in drawings prior to layout and construction.
  • Layout column centerlines and wall locations for electrical and structural support systems.
  • Coordinate with other trades to identify and resolve interferences on projects.
  • Work alongside QA/QC and field personnel to ensure all completed work aligns with plans, specifications, and layout.
  • Conduct as-built surveys to confirm correct placement of work and assist in developing record drawings.
  • Check slab elevations and alignments before concrete pours.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-5 years of experience with Robotic GPS equipment and surveying in the commercial construction sector is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD MEP/Revit software is a plus (on-the-job training will be provided).
  • Strong mathematical and critical thinking skills related to the operation of Robotic GPS equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and project specifications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to complete tasks accurately and diligently while adhering to tight project schedules.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Technical Proficiencies:

  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, and other project management software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Trimble Connect, Robotic Total Stations, and Autodesk Point Layout.
  • Experience with Auto Levels/Lasers.
  • Preferred experience with Trimble GPS/machine control and/or drone operation.
