Position Overview

The Senior Medication Management Pharmacist plays a crucial role in overseeing the processing of medication requests initiated by healthcare providers. This position ensures the timely and precise delivery of medications for patient care, while also providing essential information to healthcare professionals and patients regarding the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals.

Key Responsibilities

• The Senior Pharmacist serves as a representative of the Pharmacy in significant initiatives, including nutrition support and safety committees. This involves acting as a liaison, participating in relevant committees, suggesting policies and procedures, and evaluating medication and supply needs for these programs.

• Organizes daily tasks to align with departmental requirements.

• Verifies medication distributions (including Cassette, Omnicells, Floor Stock, etc.).

• Prepares and manages IV admixtures.

• Processes a sufficient volume of medication orders from prescribers.

• Provides pharmaceutical consultations to healthcare staff and patients.

• Identifies and assists in documenting adverse drug events, including reactions, errors, and near misses.

• Conducts and records targeted drug interventions.

• Maintains accurate records as required.

• Delivers training and educational sessions to Pharmacy personnel.

• Offers training and educational support to Nursing and Medical staff.

• Ensures proper drug security and control throughout operational hours.

• Completes assigned medication inventory tasks.

• Undertakes additional responsibilities as requested by the Pharmacy Director or Assistant Director.

Qualifications

• Staff must adhere to all C.A.R.E. Standards.

• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of healthcare personnel.

• Understanding of Pharmacy Department operations, including processing medication orders, utilizing Omnicell systems, Epic software, repackaging machines, and other relevant technologies.

  • Must possess comprehensive pharmaceutical knowledge for the safe and effective distribution of medications.
  • Baccalaureate degree or higher in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
  • Current Pharmacist Registration in the State of Massachusetts, with no disciplinary actions.
  • Experience in Hospital Pharmacy is mandatory.
