Position Overview:
The Senior Pharmacist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, overseeing the processing of medication orders as entered by prescribers. This position ensures the timely and precise delivery of medications for patient administration while providing essential information to healthcare professionals and patients regarding the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and process medication orders accurately and efficiently.
- Act as a representative of the Pharmacy in significant programs, including nutrition support and safety initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison on various committees, recommending policies and procedures as necessary.
- Review and manage drug and supply requirements for specific programs.
- Coordinate daily workload to align with departmental needs.
- Conduct checks on medication fills, including Cassette, Omnicells, and Floor Stock.
- Prepare and process IV admixtures as required.
- Provide drug consultations to healthcare personnel and patients.
- Identify and document adverse drug events, including reactions and medication errors.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping and documentation.
- Deliver training and educational sessions to Pharmacy and Nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with drug security and control protocols throughout the day.
- Complete assigned medication inventory tasks.
- Perform additional duties as requested by Pharmacy leadership.
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree or higher in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Current Pharmacist registration in the State of Massachusetts, free from disciplinary actions.
- Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is mandatory.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all healthcare personnel.
- Understanding of Pharmacy Department operations, including prescriber medication order processing and relevant technology.
- Maintain comprehensive pharmaceutical knowledge for the safe distribution of medications.
