Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned tax expert to lead our tax organization as the Director of Tax Reporting and Compliance. This pivotal role will oversee a variety of tax-related functions, including tax provisions, legislative monitoring, compliance, and audit defense. The successful candidate will collaborate across the corporate tax division and work with various departments to ensure adherence to regulations, mitigate risks, and support the strategic objectives of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the global consolidated tax provision, including quarterly filings and the preparation and review of financial statement disclosures; liaise with both internal and external auditors.
  • Manage relationships with co-source vendors and partner with the tax operations team to guarantee the accuracy and punctuality of federal and state corporate income tax returns; ensure thorough technical reviews.
  • Generate forecasts of the effective tax rate and conduct variance analyses to aid in internal reporting and strategic planning.
  • Develop and maintain the tax risk management framework and controls for tax reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with the EVP Corporate Tax Director, SVP Tax Planning, and cross-functional teams to align with business strategies, including mergers and acquisitions, and assess the income tax accounting implications.
  • Work with tax planning and business support teams to identify and implement reporting and compliance requirements related to Pillar 2 directives, consulting with external advisors as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance and automate tax provision workflows, including evaluating and implementing tax technology solutions.
  • Stay informed on legislative and regulatory changes, proactively modeling their impact on U.S. Bank.
  • Prepare and review responses to IRS audits, inquiries, and tax notices; provide technical support for controversy issues related to the company's tax positions.
  • Offer additional assistance as required for tax reporting and compliance initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA and/or MBT is preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in corporate tax with extensive knowledge of US GAAP reporting and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in ASC 740.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across various business functions, including legal, accounting, treasury, finance, and operations.
  • General understanding of international tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience in managing relationships with external advisors.
  • Capability to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
