About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our food production team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality food is prepared and served to our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review production sheets and recipes to ensure quality and quantity of food prepared
  • Prepare food according to established guidelines, maintaining accurate time and production records
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to recipe, utilizing various kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meat, fish, vegetables, and other foods per recipes
  • Carve and slice meats and cheese, garnishing and displaying food items according to standards and recipes
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of inventories in refrigerators and freezers, monitoring food temperatures and utilizing established procedures for safe food handling techniques
  • Follow department standards for safe food handling, storage, and sanitation, maintaining temperature logs for production areas
  • Monitor accurate portioning and promote food waste control, preparing food in small batches to help control waste/cost
Requirements
  • High School Graduate (or equivalent knowledge) in a relevant field
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in food production in settings such as a hotel, restaurant, or high-end institutional environment
  • Familiarity with diet restrictions and ability to adapt recipes accordingly
  • Ability to measure and scale amounts of ingredients used in a recipe
  • Proficient time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
Working Conditions

This role requires standing, walking, and reaching above shoulders for the majority of the workday, as well as squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing throughout. The working atmosphere may contain fumes and odors from food and dust sources such as flour, spices, etc. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
