Estimators conduct thorough market research, gather quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, and prepare comprehensive cost estimates and proposals. Their expertise is essential for ensuring precise budgeting and pricing across sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering.

Core Duties
- Independently assess customer-provided specifications to evaluate the feasibility of Powell's manufacturing or supply capabilities.
- Interpret electrical schematics, including single-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, site layouts, and electrical enclosure designs.
- Generate precise proposals based on the analysis of customer documentation.
- Identify and communicate application concerns effectively before proposal development.
- Transform conceptual customer designs into actionable proposals.
- Optimize proposed solutions to maximize benefits for both Powell and the customer.
- Provide insightful comments to clarify Powell's offerings.
- Serve as a technical resource for Powell Sales, assisting in both internal and external technical discussions.
- Evaluate competitive sub-vendor proposals integral to the overall Powell offering.
- Assess risks associated with sub-vendor offerings.
- Collaborate with other Powell divisions to create cross-business solutions.

Project Management
This role may involve leading projects that require contributions from multiple Application Engineers, necessitating minimal supervision. Project responsibilities may range from average to complex.

Secondary Responsibilities
- Engage in sales and marketing activities, including client meetings and conferences.
- Participate in cost-reduction initiatives alongside Engineering and Operations.
- Conduct analytical or competitive market studies as needed.
- Contribute to the development of new and existing product specifications.

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical equipment estimating or a related discipline.

Skills and Competencies
- Maintain a solid understanding of electrical theory and relevant industry standards, including IEEE/ANSI, NEC, IBC, and NFPA.
- Knowledge of low and medium voltage distribution equipment ratings and design.
- Familiarity with DC systems, UPS systems, HVAC, and pressurization.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical specifications and drawings, including schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-oriented approach.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and planning work activities efficiently.
- Problem-solving skills with a logical and systematic approach.
- Proficient in Visio, AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions
This position typically operates in a temperature-controlled office environment, with some outdoor activities required. Occasional travel may be necessary for training and meetings.

Physical Requirements
Ability to maintain balance and agility to prevent falls while walking, standing, or climbing stairs. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking may be required, along with the ability to type and apply pressure with fingers and palms.
