Assistant Town Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Town Engineer to join our team in the Public Works Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional, administrative, technical, and supervisory work in planning, managing, developing and coordinating the Town's horizontal (water, sewer, roads) and marine infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Ocean Engineering and have more than seven years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the planning, design, and construction for a broad spectrum of large complex construction projects in Massachusetts. They will also have three years of supervisory experience and be registered as a professional civil engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and administering budgets, analyzing, recommending, planning for and implementing improvements, and assisting the Town Engineer in directing and managing the operations of the Engineering Section. They will also be responsible for supervising, managing and planning large-scale complex projects, interpreting and following engineering and architectural plans, developing and effectively managing large construction budgets, and conducting cost analyses, value engineering and cost management for large-scale construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and presentation skills, proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, CAD, and engineering design software, and a team-oriented attitude. They will also be able to work in a close-knit, team environment and have the ability to meet and deal appropriately and effectively with a large variety of people.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional, administrative, technical, and supervisory work in planning, managing, developing and coordinating the Town's horizontal (water, sewer, roads) and marine infrastructure.
- Prepare and administer budgets.
- Analyze, recommend, plan for and implement improvements.
- Assist the Town Engineer in directing and managing the operations of the Engineering Section.
- Supervise, manage and plan large-scale complex projects.
- Interpret and follow engineering and architectural plans.
- Develop and effectively manage large construction budgets.
- Conduct cost analyses, value engineering and cost management for large-scale construction projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Ocean Engineering.
- More than seven years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the planning, design, and construction for a broad spectrum of large complex construction projects in Massachusetts.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
- Registered as a professional civil engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, CAD, and engineering design software.
- Team-oriented attitude.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position will be $107,840.79 to $128,879.63 dependent on qualifications. The Town of Barnstable offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
