Position Overview:

As a vital member of the juvenile justice system, the individual in this role will be responsible for the recruitment, screening, and coordination of community service opportunities for juvenile offenders. This position entails investigating, supervising, and providing counseling to young individuals involved in criminal activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:
  • Establish and maintain contracts with community service work sites while fostering positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with juvenile probation clients to facilitate their community service hours and address any issues that arise at work sites.
  • Identify and recruit suitable work sites, ensuring clear communication of expectations between the agency and the employers.
  • Collect essential information regarding work sites, including contact details, availability, and job descriptions.
  • Maintain regular communication with work sites and keep an updated list of clients needing community service hours.
  • Conduct meetings with clients and their families to clarify work assignment details and expectations.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to probation officers regarding clients' achievements and completion of community service hours.
  • Ensure all work environments are safe and free from hazards, prohibiting the use of power tools and toxic substances.
  • Supervise assigned cases, ensuring compliance with probation rules and reporting any violations.
  • Conduct scheduled visits to clients’ homes, schools, and other necessary locations while providing transportation as needed.
  • Offer counseling to juvenile offenders and their families, making referrals to treatment centers and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and current records for all assigned cases, documenting all relevant interactions.
  • Prepare and analyze reports for court and administrative purposes, making recommendations for legal actions as necessary.
  • Participate in court proceedings and hearings as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through training sessions and workshops.
  • Perform additional public relations activities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in behavioral sciences, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field recognized by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department is required. A minimum of one year of full-time experience in casework or counseling is preferred.

Special Requirements: A valid Texas Driver's License and personal automobile with liability insurance are mandatory.

Skills and Abilities:

Technical Proficiencies: Proficient in using personal computers, office equipment, and fieldwork tools.

Core Competencies: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong typing and computer skills, excellent interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with various stakeholders, counseling expertise, leadership qualities, and problem-solving capabilities.

Work Environment:

The role involves a combination of office work and fieldwork, requiring flexibility to adapt to various tasks and environments. Employees must be prepared to handle the demands of working with juvenile offenders, including potential exposure to challenging situations.

Physical Requirements: The position entails both sedentary office tasks and active fieldwork, which may involve lifting and using tools for community service projects. Driving and walking are essential components of the role, with necessary precautions to ensure safety.
