Job Title: Technical Manager

McAdams is a leading land planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, transportation, and geomatics firm with a strong presence in North Carolina and Texas. We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to join our team and contribute to our mission of creating meaningful experiences through inspired design.

Job Summary

The Technical Manager will play a key role in managing projects within our National Brands Group, coordinating design and permitting tasks, and exceeding client expectations. This individual will work closely with a team of project managers, designers, and CAD technicians, as well as subconsultants, to achieve project success. The Technical Manager will provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to design staff within the National Brands division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a project-focused production team, providing resource management, resolving technical and design problems, coaching, training, and mentoring design and CAD professionals, and working collaboratively with all team members on all aspects of project deliverables.
  • Manage design and production of civil engineering construction documents, including site plans, utility plans, stormwater management facility CDs, design reports, and specifications.
  • Assist with quality control and oversight of civil utility and site design, including water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, HGL modeling, fire flow design, grading, sediment and erosion control, and stormwater management, as well as coordination with typical subconsultants, such as geotechnical, architectural, and environmental consultants.
  • Assist in reviewing agency coordination for site permitting with the project team.
  • Work in accordance with company standards with the project team from concept phase through construction administration for a variety of projects.
  • Schedule projects for permitting, internal resources, and viability of deliverables for clients.
Requirements
  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited program in engineering or a similar field.
  • PE (multi-state licensure preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in civil site design and design team management.
  • Strong proficiency in design of water and sewer mains, mass grading, roadway horizontal and vertical design, erosion control, and storm drainage for commercial projects.
  • Thorough background in civil design, governmental regulations, AutoCAD-CIVIL 3D, plan preparation, surveying principles, and/or construction techniques.
  • Experience working with client prototypes and standards preferred.
  • Experience with national retail rollouts and high-volume design preferred.
  • Candidates should be prepared to provide work samples and/or take a CAD assessment.
Preferred Qualifications

NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) license preferred (PE candidates).
