Position Overview

We are currently looking for a Security Officer I to join our team at Sandia Inc.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The Security Officer I is tasked with vigilant observation, assessment, reporting, and responding to alarms on Sandia Inc. premises. This role involves limited arrest authority under specific conditions.
  • Adhere to General Orders, procedures, and individual post directives.
  • Maintain accurate records, operate communication devices, and manage motor vehicles.
  • Facilitate access control to secure areas, in accordance with established security protocols and identification procedures.
  • May perform duties in the Security Command Center, responding to alarms and coordinating patrols.
  • Serve as the initial responder to medical emergencies.
  • Take decisive action during security incidents to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Successfully meet and uphold the necessary physical standards and certifications required for this role.
  • As a condition of employment, Security Officers are represented by the Security Police Association (SPA) and must fulfill monthly membership dues or agency fees.
  • Job incumbents will engage in a variety of activities as dictated by site-specific requirements.

Qualifications Required:
  • A Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance or equivalent is required to commence employment.
  • Ability to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • This position is essential and requires personnel to report to work under most circumstances to ensure the security and operational integrity of our organization.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver's license, and be capable of operating vehicles necessary for job duties.
  • Must meet medical, physical, and psychological standards as outlined for the Security Officer I designation.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods, handling equipment weighing over 17 lbs.
  • Capability to work night shifts and meet visual acuity standards.
  • Must perform effectively in high-pressure situations and follow detailed procedures with accuracy.
  • Basic computer and math skills are required.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including overtime and rotating schedules.
  • The current work schedule is based on twelve (12) hour shifts.
Physical Requirements:
  • The candidate must be able to perform various physical tasks, including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, running, and meeting fitness standards.
  • Must be able to complete a one-mile run in 8 minutes and 30 seconds and a 40-yard dash in 8.5 seconds.
  • Compliance with DOE regulations regarding firearms, medical, and physical fitness standards is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Familiarity with DOE Orders, Safeguards, and Security Standards.
  • A four-year college degree in a relevant field is desirable.
