Position Overview

The role involves overseeing and ensuring compliance with project specifications and procedures through site inspections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough site inspections to verify adherence to specifications and project procedures.
  • Design specific components of engineering projects as required.
  • Utilize engineering formulas and methodologies to perform necessary calculations.
  • Guide drafters in translating designs into finalized drawings.
  • Execute routine checks in geotechnical engineering laboratories.
  • Lead inspections and testing of concrete and rebar.
  • Conduct research and compile detailed reports.
  • Prepare samples of non-approved materials for laboratory analysis.
  • Employ computer software to resolve engineering challenges.
  • Perform standard laboratory tests to ascertain various design parameters.
  • Plan and implement engineering initiatives, defining project philosophies, activities, milestones, and staffing needs according to client specifications.
  • Establish and maintain schedules and budgets for assigned engineering projects.
  • Provide regular updates on project milestones and adjust timelines as necessary.
  • Manage expenditures within the constraints of the project budget.
  • Identify staffing needs for projects and coordinate with management for support.
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of project documents, design specifications, and bid packages.
  • Review product designs to ensure compliance with engineering standards, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate technical developments, scheduling, and resolution of engineering design and testing issues.
  • Prepare interim and final project reports.
  • Communicate project status and progress to clients, project teams, and management.
  • Classify soils based on established standards.
  • Apply geological expertise to construction-related engineering challenges, including dams, tunnels, and large structures.
  • Compile geological reports and maps, interpret research findings, and recommend further investigations or actions.
  • Participate in environmental studies and prepare related reports.
  • Direct the drilling of exploratory borings and wells.
  • Supervise the installation of monitoring wells in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collect or oversee the collection of soil and groundwater samples for chemical analysis.
  • Analyze historical records and site-specific data to determine groundwater flow direction.
  • Assess the extent of contamination in soil and groundwater at environmental sites.
  • Engage in decision-making regarding research priorities and provide insights on project feasibility.
  • May mentor junior staff and interns, offering guidance and support.
  • May delegate tasks to junior staff and interns as necessary.
  • Identify potential new projects and promote the company's services proactively.
  • Travel requirements range from 25% for site work to 100% for geotechnical and environmental projects.
Qualifications

Proficient in reviewing and interpreting plans, specifications, and reports, including site, grading, utility, foundation, structural, and architectural drawings, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with 0 to 3 years of experience in Site Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental engineering preferred. Previous internship or construction experience is advantageous.

Experience with inspection of compacted fills, footings, ground improvement, deep foundations, retaining walls, utilities, asphalt, concrete, and sitework elements is beneficial.

40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is required.

Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred or the ability to obtain registration within six months.

Certifications such as ACI/NICET/NJ DCA Special Inspector and Nuclear Densometer are a plus.

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites are necessary.

Strong mathematical skills, including probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry, are essential.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.

Familiarity with software tools including AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, NitroPro, GSLOPE, KeyWall, MS Word, Excel, and Adobe is expected.

Position requires proficiency in using tools such as lump hammers, shovels, hand augers, and Nuclear Density Gauges.
