Job Overview

Position Title: Individual and Planned Giving Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Individual and Planned Giving Manager acts as the key liaison for individual contributors, addressing inquiries, nurturing relationships, and identifying potential supporters interested in making planned contributions to the organization. This role oversees the daily operations of the Planned Giving Program and works under the general guidance of the Vice President, Chief Development and Communications Officer, with direct oversight from the Director of Development. This position is primarily office-based with limited options for remote work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the main contact for individual donor inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses from the Development team. Integrate donors into the planned giving cultivation pipeline as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to create an annual Planned Giving strategy, setting goals and objectives to ensure effective execution.
  • Act as the primary contact for current and prospective members of the planned giving society, maintaining regular communication and stewardship.
  • Prepare acknowledgments and correspondence to provide necessary documentation related to bequests, wills, and other planned contributions.
  • Maintain and update records of prospective and current planned giving donors in the donor database.
  • Work with the Director of Development and Database Administrator to identify potential planned giving donors within the existing database, ensuring proper tracking of interactions.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to develop marketing materials, including digital and print assets, to promote planned giving opportunities.
  • Research trends in planned giving and emerging marketing tools, providing insights and recommendations to enhance the program.
  • Generate reports on the status of the planned giving program, including documentation for auditors and annual reporting.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to all organizational policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. Required: BA/BS degree or four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  1. Required:
    1. Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising.
    2. Demonstrated ability to build trust and provide exceptional donor service and stewardship.
    3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    4. Proficiency in MS Office, MSO 365, and donor databases.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Three years of experience in planned giving fundraising, including developing and executing effective marketing campaigns.
    2. Familiarity with military organizations and their structures.
    3. Understanding of the organization's mission and history.
    4. Customer-service oriented with a solid grasp of development functions and donor stewardship practices.
    5. Experience with software for donor and prospect research.
