Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Instrumental Music Educator to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing an instructional program in Instrumental Music for students in grades 6 through 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess student abilities and develop individualized educational plans to meet the needs of students within the City Schools curriculum framework.
  • Plan and implement instructional/learning strategies and activities, including the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Develop and adapt educational materials, resources, and techniques to meet the needs of students.
  • Establish and maintain effective discipline and management procedures to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other professional staff to maximize learning opportunities and coordinate instructional activities.
  • Continuously assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students to keep them informed of progress and provide support as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or eligible for a conditional license in music.
  • Valid standard professional educator license appropriate to the subject taught.
  • Knowledge of federal laws protecting the educational services for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in one or more musical instruments.
  • Excellent hearing skills and ability to distinguish pitch and tonal qualities.
  • Ability to move about the room to check student work and monitor behavior.
