Key Responsibilities:

The Legal Research Assistant plays a vital role in supporting attorneys with various tasks related to legal cases. This position reports to the Regional Managing Attorney.

  • Conduct thorough legal research on relevant laws, case precedents, and regulations related to family law matters.
  • Assist in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and agreements.
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and documentation.
  • Organize and maintain case files, ensuring efficient progression through the legal system.
  • Attend court proceedings, take notes, and provide administrative support as needed.
  • Meet regularly with the Regional Managing Attorney to discuss caseload and workflow.
  • Prepare for court appearances and assist attorneys during client meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with legal standards and proper formatting in all documentation.
  • Travel to court proceedings as required.
  • Meet billable hour expectations and collaborate with the billing department for accurate client invoicing.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have taken the New York State Bar exam and be awaiting results or admission.
  • Experience in family law litigation within the New York court system is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of thriving in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Proficient in managing interpersonal relationships and resolving conflicts.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations.
  • Exhibit empathy and respect while engaging with clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
