Position Overview

The primary duties of an Estimating Specialist include:
  • Analyzing specifications and drawings to ascertain the scope of work and necessary components for estimates.
  • Engaging in pre-bid discussions, bid strategies, and marketing presentations as required.
  • Generating estimates by performing comprehensive takeoffs for specific sections and evaluating vendor quotes.
  • Incorporating historical data from previous projects as necessary.
  • Collaborating with Owners, Architects/Engineers, and subcontractors to deliver precise cost estimates.
  • Creating conceptual estimates as requested by clients.
  • Participating in plan reviews and estimating evaluations for potential projects.
  • Possessing a solid understanding of construction specifications and the ability to read blueprints.
  • Responsible for soliciting bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Completing the subcontractor pre-qualification process.
  • Identifying and distributing documents to interested bidders.
  • Providing leadership during the design phase through design-assist processes, value engineering opportunities, alternatives, material substitutions, innovative techniques/products, and subcontractor relationships.
  • Leading efforts to secure long-lead subcontractors and materials.
  • Coordinating with municipalities to identify and obtain necessary permits.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Estimating Specialist role will possess:
  • A BA/BS degree in construction management, engineering, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating or project management.
  • The ability to interpret and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience with ground-up projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Sage, and MS Project.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • A willingness to engage in mentorship opportunities.
  • Experience in quantity takeoff and cost estimation.
