Crystal Growth Engineer

At Teledyne FLIR, we are committed to developing innovative single-crystal materials for cutting-edge applications. As a Crystal Growth Engineer, you will play a key role in leading research and development efforts to create high-temperature single-crystal materials for laser, scintillation, and quantum information science applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and improve crystal growth processes to enhance material performance, increase production yields, and reduce costs.
  • Lead the research and development of next-generation large bulk single-crystal materials for various applications.
  • Design and execute experiments, direct the activity of engineers and technicians, and analyze data to report results to managers and teams.
  • Support the production team in improving and troubleshooting existing product lines.
  • Compile reports and participate in customer reviews, articulating findings and data to customers.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure lab areas are well-organized and clean.
  • Participate in advanced training programs to increase product and technology knowledge, sharing learnings with the team.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Physics, Solid-State Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, or Master's degree with experience in bulk oxide crystal growth.
  • 2+ years of experience in high-temperature oxide crystal growth, preferably with Czochralski growth experience.
  • Rare-earth spectroscopy and mass spectrometry experience is highly desired.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment, solid-state synthesis, and wet chemistry is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, high energy, proactive orientation, self-motivated, and strong team player.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical proposals and project reports, drive experimentation and testing, and troubleshoot and resolve science and project issues.
  • Travel expectation is 10%.
