Position Overview

As a Site Engineering Specialist at Kiewit, you will take on a pivotal role as a job-site leader in health and safety, ensuring the quality of reporting and workmanship, while guaranteeing that all engineering tasks are executed in a professional and ethical manner.

Your primary responsibilities will encompass contract management, project planning and scheduling, along with project reporting. You will also serve as a consultant to Project Management regarding contractual, legal, and various project-related matters.

District Overview

Kiewit's Eastern District is renowned for tackling challenging heavy civil construction projects across the Northeast, including major metropolitan areas.

We excel in bridge, transit, foundation, tunnel, and water/wastewater construction, with a focus on cast-in-place concrete, structural steel erection, earthwork, pile driving, and caissons.

The Eastern District also engages in significant work within the energy/power sector across various locations in the Northeast.

Responsibilities

Field Engineering:
• Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field teams and craft supervision.
• Conduct quantity assessments by measuring and determining the percentage of completed or installed materials and work.
• Aid in the preparation of work plans and packages.
• Support field surveying and work layout, including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.
• Help compile, process, and verify daily labor timesheets.
• Assist in preparing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's).
• Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training.
• Order and schedule material deliveries.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate workgroups on-site.

Office Engineering:
• Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Execute basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
• Assist Engineers in gathering and preparing data for submission to customers, vendors, subcontractors, and governmental agencies.
• Help prepare purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as needed.
• Assist in maintaining schedules and performing updates as directed.
• Aid in maintaining project records and correspondence, including daily reports, photographs, RFIs, and memorandums.
• Support job cost system data entry and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management.
• Assist in generating change orders and as-built data for Project Manager review.
• Provide field support and oversee subcontractor operations.

Estimating:
• Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data related to projects, incorporating various productions and costs for bid preparation.
• Complete a plan and specification review for assigned projects, identifying risk areas for the Senior Estimator.
• Conduct material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents.

Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of construction field experience in heavy civil infrastructure and/or water/wastewater projects.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Proficient in reading, analyzing, and identifying discrepancies in engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Ability to access all areas of a construction site in various climates and environments.
• Willingness to travel and/or relocate as necessary for project sites.
• Highly motivated with a strong commitment to excellence and initiative.
• Strong work ethic and dedication to completing tasks correctly the first time.
• Commitment to ethics and integrity.
• Passion for safety, ensuring a safe work environment.

Base Compensation: $90,000/yr - $100,000/yr

(Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
