Job Title: Senior Manager, AccountingJob Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Accounting to join our team at American Water Resources LLC. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable and Treasury functions, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting, and driving process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Treasury and Accounts Payable teams, overseeing direct reports and ensuring the smooth operation of these functions.
  • Evaluate current processes and workflows, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the development and accuracy of the cash forecast and other department-related financial reporting.
  • Review journal entries and assist in the facilitation of the monthly close process, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and operating reports, leading applicable parts of the annual audits and coordination with external auditors.
  • Work with the Financial Planning and Analysis, General Accounting, Claims Department, vendors, and financial institutions to provide information for accounting and reporting matters and assist in interpreting and analyzing financial results.
  • Assist in the refinement and maintenance of accounting/financial policies, practices, internal controls, and operating procedures to ensure the integrity of the Company's internal control structure.
  • Develop strong relationships with process owners and act as a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of controls.
  • Lead process walkthrough meetings with external auditors, create and maintain process flow diagrams and narratives, and manage documentation requirements related to the internal control environment.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives to optimize the effectiveness of existing business applications, technologies, and systems and to build efficiencies/improvements into current business processes.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of progressive Corporate Accounting experience with a minimum of 3 years of people management experience.
  • 4+ years of Public Accounting experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word), with a particular expertise in advanced Microsoft Excel functionalities (i.e., pivot tables, VLOOKUP's, SUMIFs, etc.).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with proven ability to interact effectively with internal customers, management, and external professionals (i.e., auditors).
  • Proven track record of process improvement.
  • Excellent analytical, systemic, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work in teams or effectively work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on initiative, knowledge sharing, team building, and decision making.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and prior experience working with Oracle is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word), with a particular expertise in advanced Microsoft Excel functionalities (i.e., pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, etc.) is a strong preference.
Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

Certifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) is a plus.
