Job Summary

This recruitment aims to fill a full-time position for an Early Childhood Education Support Specialist at Oregon State University. The role involves assisting lead educators at the Dixon Kits Early Care and Education Center, which operates under the Family Resource Center. The center is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that emphasizes inquiry, diversity, and equity.

The Education Support Specialist will be responsible for various assigned areas and the young children in their care. This role includes supporting lead teachers, collaborating with the Center Director, and engaging with parents as necessary. The position requires a solid understanding of child development, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to creating a safe and nurturing atmosphere for young learners.

Key Responsibilities

85% Planning & Classroom Coordination:
  • Assist in delivering a developmentally appropriate, play-based, and culturally responsive educational program for children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to develop age-appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Foster positive relationships with children in care.
  • Maintain a safe and engaging environment, utilizing both indoor and outdoor spaces as educational tools.
  • Document each child's progress to inform curriculum development and maintain communication with parents.
  • Support staff during meal and break times, and assume lead teacher responsibilities when required.
  • Build supportive relationships with parents to facilitate their children's adjustment and ongoing development.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the professional community within the center.
  • Engage in reflection and action regarding equity initiatives.
  • Participate in center-wide events and assist in preparing materials for parent engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant documentation and licensing standards.
  • Model high-quality practices for students in early childhood education programs.
  • Engage in personal professional development and support the growth of colleagues.
10% Family Engagement:
  • Maintain open communication with parents, fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Support outreach efforts by demonstrating high-quality practices to visitors and participating in special events.
5% Additional Duties

Qualifications

An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or equivalent credentials, along with relevant experience in a certified childcare setting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current certifications in First Aid/CPR and food handling.
Working Conditions
